Get Started as a Lobbyist

Set up your lobbying workspace and profiles before taking on client work. This guide is for independent practitioners and lobbying firms.

Already invited by your firm?
Open the invitation email and sign in or create an account using the invited email address. Join that organization instead of creating another workspace, then continue with your profiles in step 5.

The screenshots use Natalie Brooks and Front Range Policy Partners LLC as examples. Enter your own information.

1. Create your account

  1. Open the Civalta sign-up page. Choose Sign up with Google or Sign up with Microsoft, or enter your First name, Last name, Email, and Password.
  2. For email/password signup, use at least 12 characters, complete Confirm password, and select Create account.
  3. If prompted, enter the six-digit email code and select Verify email. Check spam or select Send new code if needed.

2. Create your lobbying firm workspace

  1. Under Create an organization, select Start setup. Choose Lobbying firm, including if you work independently.
  2. Answer Are you personally a lobbyist? Choose Yes if you will practice; choose No if you only administer the firm.
  3. Enter your legal Organization name, optionally add your Website and up to three Industry focus areas, then select Confirm organization.

You become the Owner. Accept any existing firm invitation instead; creating a new organization declines pending organization invitations. If you selected No, continue at step 5.

Choose Lobbying firm and indicate whether you will personally do lobbyist work.

3. Add your jurisdictions and registration details

If you selected Yes, use Add jurisdiction on Verify your account to select at least one state or local government jurisdiction you serve. Enter your registration number where required; a reference URL is optional. Select Complete onboarding. Submitting details does not mean your registration is verified.

Add jurisdictions you actually serve and accurate registration details where required.

4. Choose how to enter your workspace

Important: Discounted pricing through Civalta
If you have discounted pricing through Civalta, choose Enter workspace under Organization access. Contact Civalta Support to link your account to your discounted pricing before activating a lobbyist seat.

For standard pricing, choose Activate lobbyist access and complete the checkout to begin practicing. Active practicing access lets you submit proposals and manage client work.

Alternatively, choose Enter workspace under Organization access to finish firm setup first. This keeps Owner access without activating your practicing role. Once any discounted pricing is linked and you are ready to activate, open Settings → Organization → Members, select Make lobbyist for your account, and follow the billing prompts.

5. Complete your personal and lobbyist profiles

Open Settings → Profile → User profile. Review your Full name; add your Professional title, Short bio, and Location. Work email is read-only. Optionally upload a Profile photo, then select Save profile.

After practicing access is activated, open Lobbyist profile. Add your Headline, Years of experience, and Long bio; review your Industries and Jurisdictions served. Turn on Published profile to allow discovery pages to show your profile, and set Accepting new clients to show your availability. Select Save profile. If this tab is missing, ask an Owner or Admin about your practicing access.

6. Complete your firm’s profile

As an Owner or Admin, open Settings → Organization → General details. Review the read-only Legal organization name; add your Doing business as (DBA), Official website, Billing email, and Mission statement. Optionally add an Organization Logo and review Industries, then select Save profile.

Show clients on organization profile starts off. Enabling it can display clients entered by your firm’s lobbyists, including lists hidden on their personal profiles.

7. Invite teammates, if needed

Owners and Admins can open Settings → Organization → Members. Under Invite member, enter an Email address, choose Admin access, Practicing lobbyist, or Billing access, and select Invite member.

Practicing-lobbyist invitations require a payment method. Pending invitations do not occupy or bill a seat; billing begins when accepted.
