Find and Compare Lobbyists

Find a lobbyist whose experience, jurisdictions, and availability fit your organization’s needs. Use the directory to narrow your options, review individual and firm profiles, and compare candidates before starting a conversation.

Before you begin
Sign in to your Client workspace. If you still need to set it up, follow Get Started as a Client.

The screenshots use example profiles, firms, and registration details.

1. Open the Lobbyists directory

Select Lobbyists in the main navigation to open Find Lobbyists. You can also choose Browse Lobbyists from your dashboard.

2. Narrow your search

  • Search: Enter a lobbyist’s name, firm name, or profile keyword in Search lobbyists. Results update as you type.
  • Issue Area: Select a policy focus, such as Energy or Healthcare.
  • Jurisdiction: Select the government jurisdiction you need. Use Search jurisdictions or expand a state to see its local-government options.
  • Availability: Choose Accepting clients, Not accepting clients, or All Availability.

For example, an organization seeking help with Colorado energy policy can select Energy, Colorado — State government, and Accepting clients. Select Clear to reset the search and all filters.

Use filters to find relevant candidates, then compare their experience, issue areas, and firm affiliations.

State government and local government are separate selections. If you select several jurisdictions, results may match any one of them. Open each candidate’s profile to confirm coverage across the jurisdictions your work requires.

3. Review the lobbyist’s profile

Select a lobbyist’s name or profile card. Review About, years of experience, Jurisdictions Served, and Quick Facts for their organization, location, issue areas, and verified registrations.

The AVAILABLE label means the lobbyist is accepting new client conversations. Confirm their capacity and start date directly. If a profile includes current or past clients, use that history to guide your questions; client lists may be hidden, so a missing list does not establish a lack of experience.

Check verification for your jurisdiction
Search results can include registrations awaiting verification. A Verified badge on a directory card indicates at least one verified registration. Review each entry under Jurisdictions Served for its own status, such as Verified or Pending verification.

4. Review the firm behind the profile

Select the firm name or View Org Profile. Read its Overview, review its issue areas, and use Website if provided. Under Lobbyists, select See all to review the firm’s team. A firm may also choose to display its clients.

Ask who will lead your engagement and which teammates will support the work.

5. Compare your candidates

Keep notes on two or three candidates and review the same criteria for each. Use their profiles as a starting point, then confirm details in a conversation.

Compare Questions to ask
Relevant expertise Have they handled similar policy issues? What approach would they recommend?
Jurisdiction coverage Do they serve the level of government you need? What is the status of the relevant registration?
Capacity and team When can they start? Who will lead the work? Are there potential conflicts with other clients?
Scope and communication What deliverables, updates, and reporting will you receive?
Fees and terms What will the engagement cost, what expenses are included, and how will billing work?

Hiring rates are discussed with the lobbyist or firm. See Understand Civalta Pricing and Fees for platform subscriptions and service fees.

6. Start a conversation

Select Send Message to open a conversation. Introduce your organization and share your policy goals, jurisdiction, timeline, and questions from your comparison notes.

If you have a published opportunity, use Invite on a directory card or Invite to opportunity on the profile. An invitation gives the lobbyist a chance to review your needs and respond; it does not hire them. Follow Invite Lobbyists to Opportunities for the steps.

If you do not find a match

  • Try a broader keyword or select Clear to start again.
  • Use the dedicated Issue Area and Jurisdiction filters for those criteria.
  • If a profile becomes unavailable, select Lobbyists in the main navigation and review another candidate.
